Sohrab Shahid-Saless is subject of doc in Germany
TEHRAN – The Germany-based Iranian filmmaker Mahmud Behraznia is making a documentary about his fellow filmmaker Sohrab Shahid-Saless (1944-1988) who continued his career in Germany during the 1970s and 1980s.
The documentary titled “Meteor” chronicles Shahid-Saless’ life in Germany and the 14 films that he made in the country, Behraznia told the Persian service of ISNA on Tuesday.
“The films were about various issues in German society, in which he faced serious obstacles and endured miseries in making the films,” he added.
Shahid-Saless’ credits include “A Simple Event” (1973) and “Still life” (1974) “Coming of Age” (1976), “The Willow Tree” (1984), “The Long Vacation of Lotte H. Eisner” (1979), “Anton P. Checkov: A life” (1981), and “Order” (1980).
Behraznia began the filming of “Meteor” during the early months of 2016. He has held meetings with those German people who worked with Shahid-Saless in his films.
The film also contains interviews with Werner Herzog, the celebrated German cineaste who was a supporter of Shahid-Saless, and his sole daughter Masha.
Behraznia is director of numerous documentary films, one of which is “Close to Kiarostami”, which is about the renowned auteur Abbas Kiarostami who himself thought it to be the best documentary that had been made about him.
